Today I am going to take you back to 1989, 32 years ago when I experienced gratitude from one of the most profound leaders of his time, Lord King – dubbed Margaret Thatcher’s favourite businessman and who was responsible for turning British Airways to one of the most successful airlines of recent times. I remember as a 19 year old, when I was coordinating the private meeting rooms at The Savoy London, I had to deliver an important message to a confidential meeting. When I handed the message to Lord King, he stopped talking to his colleagues, turned to me, looked me in the eyes and said “thank you my child”.

Whether you are a leader, spouse, parent, friend etc. it only takes a few seconds to show gratitude and make someone feel appreciated – in leadership that is how you achieve followership = talent retention!
